Growing up, Jacob Walters never found a bat that he loved, that looked good, and performed well. So he took matters into his own hands and started making bats when he was fifteen years old. Four years later, he started Jawbats — a custom wood baseball bat manufacturing company with a focus on high-quality, high performance and modification for the individual.
From the model to the feel of the barrel and handle to the specific color, every bat is tailor-made. They even create limited edition bats with designs specifically custom-made for each customer.
For now, Jacob caters his creations to high school and college youth instead of focusing on the Major Leagues. He says, “There’s only so much good quality wood to go around.” His goal is to get the best-quality products to youth so they can perform and get the jobs they desire and get to the “next level.” Young athletes love that the bats are made from a trustworthy source, and by people who truly care about them.
They call these bats “difference makers.” Jacob says it’s taken tons of hard work to get to this point. When he was in college, he’d pull all-nighters to make bats and drive back to class. But he says, “You have to love the process…it’s not a grind and a hustle when you love it.”
