At 11-years old, Carson Kropfl had an idea. Why not invent a skateboard that fits inside your locker and your backpack? It could be a great way to pay for his surf contests and lessons. He worked with his dad to create the first prototypes, and the next thing you know, in 2017 he was on Shark Tank, where Richard Branson outbid Mark Cuban for the opportunity to invest in Carson’s business. Branson told Carson he reminded him of himself. In 2018 he received his design patent from the US Patent office, and in 2020 Wham-O licensed the rights to Locker Board and Carson’s other patented product, Streetubez.
Locker Board has a sustainability-driven business model which emphasizes recycling traditional skateboard decks and upcycling them into Locker Board skate decks, effectively reducing the volume of manufactured waste destined for local landfills. In fact, a local Vans shop donated used skateboards to Carson to build his first Locker boards. Today, Locker Board donates a dollar for every board sold to ocean conservation. That is how Carson rolls!
