Making Lemonade is a series of conversations with young entrepreneurs who have overcome obstacles, embraced change, and turned lemons into lemonade.
From a childhood in foster care and facing challenges in education during his youth to Harvard, founding a production company, becoming a motivational speaker and author, Rodney Walker’s story is about resilience, no matter what challenges you face.
As a foster kid growing up in Chicago, and with an autism diagnosis in elementary school, he ran into obstacle after obstacle in his academic performance. To pick himself up, he joined a youth mentoring program during his senior year in high school, laying the foundation for building his career resilience later on. It was here he started working with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), where he would receive support and mentorship and get empowered to start his first business while still in high school. His dedication to learning and willingness to work through the trauma that shaped his past, in order to move into his future, propelled him forward. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at Morehouse College and went on to receive graduate degrees from both Yale and Harvard.
Fast forward to today, Rodney is the founder of Forever Life Productions, a renowned motivational speaker, nonprofit educator, social-emotional expert, the author of A New Day One, and an advocate for trauma-informed education for at-risk youth. Watch his episode and learn actionable tools to overcome adversity, build resilience in your life and your career, and find success for the long term.
“No one can go back and make a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”
